AMSTERDAM, May 8, 2019 – Zoomin and The Postcode Lotteries have once again teamed up to present the finalists of the Postcode Lotteries’ Green Challenge, one of the world’s largest competitions in the field of sustainable entrepreneurship.

The Postcode Lotteries’ Green Challenge encourages green start-ups from all over the world to submit their promising sustainable business plans. Out of all submitted business plans, five candidates will be selected for the grand finale, which will take place on October 3rd in Amsterdam. The winner of the competition will receive €500,000 to further develop the product or service, and to bring it to market. In addition to the prize money, all finalists will receive over six months of expert coaching to optimize their business opportunities.

Before they fly into Amsterdam, each of the five finalists and their sustainable solution will be profiled by Zoomin in a 3-4-minute video. They’ll present who they are, where they come from and explain how their business plan will help contribute towards a more sustainable planet. Zoomin’s CEO Roger Lodewick, “For Zoomin, the Postcode Lotteries is a natural partner. This cooperation fits perfectly with our motto: ‘Dare, care and share’. We specialize in creating engaging short-form video stories about what we call ‘Heroes’, people who contribute to a better world in one way or another, often also without their own gain. We profile people who are dedicated to finding solutions for a more sustainable planet as ‘Green Heroes’ and are looking forward to bringing the inspiring stories of this year’s finalists to our worldwide audience.”

Chantal Oudenaarden-Pesch, Communication Advisor for the Green Challenge, “This cooperation is a great way to show how these green entrepreneurs are contributing towards a more sustainable planet. We want to offer the start-ups a stage and inspire people around to world with these great solutions. Besides, the way Zoomin operates (videographers in each country) is a sustainable way to do the video recordings.”

About the Postcode Lotteries Green Challenge

The Postcode Lotteries Green Challenge has been organized annually since 2007 to help contribute to a greener world. It is one of the world’s biggest annual competitions in the field of sustainable business plans. The competition focuses on starting, innovative and creative entrepreneurs. Green products or services that contribute towards a more sustainable planet and score highly on design, user-friendliness and quality are eligible to win. Each participant must submit a detailed business plan that is subsequently assessed by the preliminary jury. Winners of previous editions have gone on to be successful with their innovative products, thanks in part to the publicity and network surrounding the Postcode Lotteries Green Challenge. In 2018, the winner was The Great Bubble Barrier. The Great Bubble Barrier has developed an air bubble screen for use on riverbeds that catches plastic before it arrives at sea. Approximately 80% of the plastic floating in the oceans enters the sea via rivers. In order to tackle plastic soup, The Great Bubble Barrier sends high-pressure air through a perforated tube on the riverbed.
